In a historic achievement, Dr. Hanan Sboul, Secretary General of the Jordanian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, has been elected President of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) for a five-year term — a groundbreaking global milestone.

The election took place last week during a conference in the United States, attended by over 400 members from 42 countries, including regulatory authorities, pharmaceutical industry leaders, medical and pharmacy faculty, as well as associations representing doctors and pharmacists.

Dr. Hanan is the first woman and the first non-American to be elected president of the USP since its founding in 1820 — a precedent that reflects the international scientific community’s trust in her outstanding expertise. Her election is a well-deserved recognition of her distinguished contributions to public health and the pharmaceutical sector.

This historic achievement is a source of pride for the medical and pharmaceutical communities in Jordan and the Arab world, showcasing the leading role of Jordanian professionals on regional and global platforms.

The United States Pharmacopeia is the official body responsible for setting pharmaceutical standards and technical specifications in the U.S. It also serves as a global reference for ensuring the quality, safety, and efficacy of medicines, and is used in over 150 countries worldwide.
